Post-Traumatic Stress disorder

Understanding PTSD

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic, often disabling disorder characterized by intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to a traumatic event long after the event has ended. The event could be experienced or observed. Patients may relive the event through flashbacks or nightmares. They may feel sadness, fear or anger, or detached or estranged from other people. Patients with PTSD may avoid situations or people that remind them of the traumatic event. They may have strong negative reactions to something as ordinary as a loud noise or an accidental touch. The chances of developing PTSD is over a person's life is 6-9%.

Standard treatment for PTST includes talk therapy and prescribed medications, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Unfortunately, several problems with standard treatments exist. Drug therapy can take months to work. A significant number of patients do not respond. Some have only a partial response. Others relapse after an initial response. Many patients drop out of therapy.

Ketamine for PTSD

Early evidence on the use of ketamine for PTSD has been encouraging. A recent randomized trial showed ketamine was able to reduce most PTSD symptoms within 24 hrs of the first infusion. These effects may last  for a month or more. For many patient suffering from PTSD, ketamine may be a helpful supplement to other therapies, or offer hope when other approaches have failed. These  encouraging findings offer hope that ketamine can improve the lives of those suffering from PTSD.

Treatment at Catalyst Ketamine

We believe that mental health is a right and should be available to all. Our IV ketamine treatment for depression starts at $425 for a 1-2 hour, highly personalized session. It is a longer period than that at most other centers, but one we found produces a more robust and long-lasting effect.

Ketamine is not a substitute for accepted treatments from a qualified professional mental health provider. If you or your loved one is suffering from PTSD and interested in ketamine as a supplement or alternative to traditional therapy, please call us for a free consultation.

I feel this huge weight lifted.
