Individuals with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) have obsessions, compulsions, or both. Obsessions are recurrent, intrusive, and distressing thoughts, images, or impulses. Compulsions are repetitive mental or physical acts that the individual feels compelled to perform to prevent or reduce distress. Approximately 1.5% of women and 1% for men develop OCD over their lifetimes. Many patients with OCD also experience anxiety and depression as well. Without therapy, OCD can persist in up to 80% of cases, with markedly impaired quality of life.
Treatment for OCD consists of cognitive-behavioral therapy, prescribed medications, or both. Such therapies can help reduce symptoms. However, medications typically take weeks to months to work, and relief from symptoms may be incomplete. A third of patients drop out of therapy and a third of patients do not respond.
Early evidence suggests ketamine can produce significant reductions in both obsessions and compulsions associated with OCD. The reduction in intrusive thoughts can begin rapidly, and last for a week or more. These encouraging findings offer new hope that ketamine can improve the lives of those suffering from OCD.
We believe that mental health is a right and should be available to all. Our IV ketamine treatment for depression starts at $425 for a 1-2 hour, highly personalized session. It is a longer period than that at most other centers, but one we found produces a more robust and long-lasting effect.
Ketamine is not a substitute for accepted treatments from a qualified professional mental health provider. If you or your loved one is interested in ketamine as a supplement or alternative to traditional therapy, please call us for a free consultation.
